What 2011 holds for the San Antonio Silver Stars

The San Antonio Silver Stars will try to rebound from their rough 2010 season. Last season, the Stars were plagued with injuries throughout the season. The injuries were too much for the Stars to bear, and that led to their 14-20 season.

Even with the poor record, the Stars did manage to sneak into the WNBA Western Conference playoffs, but were eliminated in the conference semifinals by the Phoenix Mercury.

The San Antonio Silver Stars have made a number of changes aimed at giving the team a better chance in the 2011 WNBA season. Stars General Manager Dan Hughes will be returning to his former role as the team's head coach. Eight new players have been added to San Antonio's roster, and Coach Hughes hopes the new additions will help the Stars get through any injuries that might occur over the course of the season.

Last season's rebounding leader for the Stars Michelle Snow will no longer be with the team. Snow was traded to the Chicago Sky in exchange for Jia Perkins. Crystal Kelly will also be missing from San Antonio's roster.

With the new additions to the team, I expect the Stars to have a significantly better performance than they did last season. San Antonio will have to start the season without second year player Jayne Appel. Appel was bothered by a knee injury during the 2010 season, and was forced to miss a significant amount of games. Appel had the knee surgically repaired during the off-season, and is expected to miss the first three to four weeks of the 2011 WNBA season.

Without Appel, the Stars will need their perimeter game to carry the team for the first month of the season. Fortunately for them, they have the tools to do so. The Stars will need solid performances from Scholanda Robinson early on in the 2010 WNBA season, if they want to get things off to a good start.

The San Antonio Silver Stars definitely improved their team during the off-season, and will be worth watching during the 2011 WNBA season. The Stars will open up the 2011 season on June 4, against the Tulsa Shock.

David has supported the San Antonio Silver Stars for the past three years.
