The 2011 WNBA regular season has had its share of exciting games. With the regular season almost at the halfway mark, the main contenders in the WNBA have started to emerge. Here are the top five teams in the WNBA right now.
1.
Minnesota LynxWith their 10-4 record, the Minnesota Lynx are clearly the best team in the WNBA right now. Seimone Augustus, Maya Moore, Lindsay Whalen, and Rebekkah Brunson have been consistent for the Lynx throughout the 2011 WNBA regular season, giving Minnesota one of the best offenses in the league.
2. Phoenix MercuryLeading the WNBA's Western Conference with their 10-5 record, the Phoenix Mercury have replaced the San Antonio Silver Stars as the team to beat in the west. Like the Lynx, the Mercury also have very reliable scoring options on their team, capable of scoring in double-digits on any given night, not to mention Diana Taurasi who is averaging 19.3 points per game.
3.
San Antonio Silver StarsAfter starting the 2011 WNBA regular season on an incredible note, the San Antonio Silver Stars have fizzled out a bit. Ever since the New York Liberty sent the Silver Stars on their first losing streak, Dan Hughes and company have not been able to get their momentum back. With a regular season record of 9-5, the Silver Stars have more than enough time to get things right.
4.
Indiana FeverWith a regular season record of 11-6, the Indiana Fever are currently the Queens of the east. While the Fever aren't as offensively proficient as some of their western conference counterparts, their defense and tenacity makes up for the difference.
5.
Connecticut SunThe Connecticut Sun are right behind the Fever in the WNBA Eastern Conference standings, trailing by only half a game. With Tina Charles, Renee Montgomery, Asjha Jones, Kara Lawson all averaging double-digit scoring per game for the Sun, putting points on the board is never a problem.
