The Seattle Sounders were unable to get a win against the worst team in the MLS Western Conference, walking away with a 2-2 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps on June 11. With the draw, the Sounders' 2011 MLS regular season record is now 5-4-7.
For the first 80 minutes of the game, both teams had problems finding the post. The Whitecaps' luck improved when Osvaldo Alonso fouled Camilo Sanvezzo inside the box. Whitecaps forward Eric Hassli smoothly converted on the ensuing penalty kick, giving Vancouver a one goal lead.
In the closing minutes of the game between the Sounders and the Whitecaps, Seattle put on a solid comeback, only to end up with yet another draw. Down by a goal with 10 minutes to go, the Sounders scored two quick goals, taking control of the game. Unfortunately for the Sounders, their lead would be short lived as Eric Hassli quickly scored the equalizing goal for the Whitecaps.
The player of the game was definitely Eric Hassli for the Whitecaps, who scored his team's two goals. Hassli's equalizing goal will surely grace many highlight reels for quite some time, as it left many fans with their jaws hanging at Qwest Field. From outside the box, Hassli fired a shot that stunned Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Kelly as it sailed into the post.
Keller reflected back on the amazing goal after the game: "I could give him that shot probably another 99 times and I don't know if he's going to score it, but he did today and sometimes you just have to shake someone's hand and just say that's a hell of a goal. I guess if you have to concede a goal you concede on something like that."
With the 2-2 draw, the Sounders are currently third in the MLS Western Conference standings, trailing the Los Angeles Galaxy by nine points. The Sounders' next match will be on the road against Toronto FC on June 18.
