Offense is no longer an issue for the Seattle Sounders FC, as they stretched their undefeated streak to nine games, defeating the Colorado Rapids 4-3 on July 16.
The Rapids were the better team in the first half of the match, stunning Sounders FC goalkeeper Kasey Keller in the first minute of the game with a well-placed shot.
The Sounders answered back with a goal of their own five minutes later, when Sounders midfielder Alvaro Fernandez fired back with a goal of his own. The Rapids were able to take the lead for the second time in the match, when Jeff Larentowicz scored three minutes before halftime.
In the second half, the Sounders turned on the heat, scoring the equalizing goal two minutes into the half, thanks to midfielder Roger Levesque. The Seattle Sounders eventually took the lead in the 82nd minute of the game, when forward Fredy Montero scored his third goal in two games.
Midfielder Mauro Rosales scored another goal for the Sounders barely a minute later, giving Seattle a two-goal cushion.
"We played very nice football today in the game," Rosales told reporters after the game." We were playing very good in the first half and they were winning the game that they didn't deserve to. We changed mentality in the second half and we worked for everything. This is the prize. We won."
The Rapids tried to get back in the game scoring another goal in the 89th minute, but at that point it was a little, too late.
With the win, the Sounders now trail the Los Angeles Galaxy by a point for the first spot in the MLS Western Conference table. The Sounders will get to test themselves against one of the most respected football clubs in the world when they face Manchester United on July 20 in an exhibition match.
