Silver Stars get payback against Sparks

The San Antonio Silver Stars have definitely gotten their act back together, winning their second straight game and defeating the Los Angeles Sparks on July 18. Sparks head coach Joe Bryant got a win in his first game back with Los Angeles at the Silver Stars' expense. This time around, the Silver Stars returned the favor as they cruised to the 79-69 victory.

The Silver Stars jumped off to an early lead against the Sparks, building up a twelve point lead by the end of the first quarter. The Sparks rallied back in the third quarter, but a solid 22 point fourth quarter performance by the Stars secured the victory.

Silver Star guard Becky Hammon, who has struggled shooting the ball in the team's past few games, led both teams in scoring, finishing with a game high 26 points. Hammon, who shot 20 percent from the field in her last outing for the Silver Stars, was remarkable better in Monday night's contest, shooting 53 percent from the field.

Jia Perkins also managed to shake off her recent scoring troubles against the Sparks, finishing the game with 14 points and 3 rebounds. Sophia Young had the only double-double on the Silver Star squad, finishing the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

With the win, the Silver Stars remain at the second spot in the WNBA's Western Conference, trailing the Phoenix Mercury by half a game. The Silver Stars' next game will be against the Seattle Storm on July 21. A win over the Storm, and the Silver Stars might very well find themselves back at the top of the WNBA's Western Conference.
