Seattle Sounders prepare for Colorado Rapids

The Seattle Sounders will have their work cut out for them when they go against the Colorado Rapids on April 22. At this point in the season, the Sounders need a win to remain respectable in the MLS Western Conference.

The Sounders started off the 2011 MLS season poorly, losing their first two games. The Sounders slowly worked themselves into a rhythm, managing to secure draws in their next two matches. The Sounders finally got their first win of the 2011 MLS season against the Chicago Fire on April 9. Unfortunately for the Sounders, they were unable to build off that win, barely walking away with a draw against the Philadelphia Union.

Despite the lack of wins by the Sounders, they are not completely out of the playoff picture yet. Currently, their record for the season is 1-2-3, and they are only trailing the top team in the MLS Western Conference by six points. A win over the Rapids will be a tremendous boost for the Sounders' season, and it could potentially lead to them being tied with Colorado for the third spot in the MLS Western Conference.

The Rapids, on the other hand, started the season on a positive note, winning their first three matches, and taking the lead in the MLS Western Conference. The Rapids then dropped their next two games, sliding down to the third spot in the west.

The Sounders will need all the motivation they can get against the Rapids, who are yet to lose a game in front of their home crowd. Luckily for the Sounders, they are coming off an exciting comeback April 16 against the best team in the MLS Eastern Conference, the Philadelphia Union. The Sounders trailed the Union for most of the match, but managed to tie up the game with a goal in overtime. That by itself should be a morale boost for the Sounders, who are yet to win a match on the road.

Sounders top scorer O'Brian White was quiet in their last outing, and should have a better performance against the Rapids. White currently has two goals in the 2011 MLS season and will be looking to add a third on Friday.
