The Seattle Sounders were able to match a club record of seven games without a loss, walking away with a draw against the Los Angeles Galaxy in a scoreless affair.
The Sounders actually had a chance to take the early lead in the game, when a Freddy Montero shot hit Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez on the arm. Unfortunately, for the Sounders, Galaxy goalkeeper Brian Perk read the ball well and prevented the goal. Perk went on and made a few more saves for the Galaxy, helping them secure the draw.
"Tonight, he looked like a guy who has played before," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena told reporters after the match. "He's a keeper we can put in there and know he can be successful."
Perk's counterpart Kasey Keller wasn't bad either when the Sounders and the Galaxy met July 4. Keller was tested several times during the game, stepping up to the challenge every time.
The Sounders would have liked to walk away with the win, but a draw against the team with the best record in the league is nothing to be ashamed of.
"They're a good team," Keller told reporters. "They have the most points in the league, and there's a reason for that. We came here and gave them a good game. A draw was probably a fair result, but at the same time, either team could have stolen it."
With the draw, the Sounders slide down to the third spot in the 2011 MLS Western Conference rankings. The Sounders will venture into enemy territory for their next game, when they face their rivals, the Portland Timbers, on July 10.
