It's no secret that hating Miami Heat forward LeBron James has become fashionable, ever since his decision to move to South Beach. Many so-called fans of the sport celebrated the Heat's defeat rather than the Mavericks victory, as if the results of the game would have any impact on their lives.
"All the people that were rooting for me to fail, at the end of the day, they have to wake up tomorrow and have the same life that they had before they woke up today," James told reporters after losing his second attempt at an NBA title. "They have the same personal problems they had today. I'm going to continue to live the way I want to live and continue to do the things that I want to do with me and my family and be happy with that. They can get a few days or a few months or whatever the case may be on being happy about not only myself, but the Miami Heat not accomplishing their goal, but they have to get back to the real world at some point."
In my opinion, that was one of the most mature statements James has made in his basketball career. Critics jumped all over James after he made the statement, twisting his words, and claiming he felt superior to others. While I understand that in this day and age, a superstar of James' caliber has to be diplomatic with his words; his statements were completely accurate.
James took responsibility for his performance during the 2011 NBA Finals, acknowledging the fact that he didn't have a great series. Critics would like to blame LeBron for the Heat's loss, but the reality is the Dallas Mavericks were simply the better team.
It's funny how some say that James is a failure, confident he'll never win a NBA championship. As if players like John Stockton, Karl Malone and Charles Barkley are all failures, when in reality they are more successful than 99 percent of people on the planet.
