The San Antonio Silver Stars finally got back to the winning side of things, defeating the Seattle Storm 69-66 on July 14. With the win, the Silver Stars stand alone at the second spot in the WNBA's Western Conference, trailing the Phoenix Mercury by half a game.
The July 14 encounter between the Silver Stars and the Mercury turned out to be an all defensive affair. Both teams struggled offensively during the game, and it took some last minute heroics from the Silver Stars to secure the win.
Rookie Danielle Adams was definitely the most effective player during the game, finishing with a game high 23 points. Adams was also effective from beyond the arc, converting on three of her five attempts from long range. With 28 seconds left in the game, Adams helped the Silver Stars pull away with a three point play, and solid free throw shooting from Danielle Robinson helped them seal the deal.
"I was just in the groove, and I was feeling it," Adams told reporters after the game. "I had a whole bunch of open shots and I decided to just take over."
Becky Hammon, who had a rough outing earlier during the week against the Los Angeles Sparks, wasn't able to shake off her poor shooting streak. Hammon finished the game shooting 20 percent from the field. Despite her poor shooting performance, Hammon still found ways to help out the Silver Stars, dishing the ball around effectively. Hammon finished the game with nine assists for the Silver Stars.
The Silver Stars will face the Los Angeles Sparks next on July 19. The Sparks won the last encounter between the two teams on July 12, and the Silver Stars will be hungry for some payback.
