Why Auburn will win the National Championship

The Auburn Tigers will show the entire nation just how good they truly are when they face the Oregon Ducks in Glendale Arizona for the prestigious BCS National Championship game. For the first time since 1999, both teams matched up for the Jan 10 event will be participating in the championship game for the first time. Without question, the Oregon Ducks will not hand over the title without putting up a fight. No matter how hard they fight, it will be extremely difficult for them to defeat the Tigers who have been well tested throughout the season and will be looking to make a point to the entire nation when game time arrives.

I became a fan of the Auburn Tigers during my senior year of high school. I went to visit a cousin who was a student at the university and he took me to watch the football game. I was immediately captivated by the school spirit shown by the students. I went home feeling like a member of their family and vowed to return there for my studies. I ended up going to University of Houston who ended up going 0-11 in my first year. I decided I could not support my school's team and ended up attending more games at Auburn than at my own school!

Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton will be playing with a huge chip on his shoulder. Newton's season has been filled with controversy, as allegations of improper behavior by Newton began to surface. Even though he was clearly the best player in all of college football, for a moment he looked like he was going to be blackballed by Heisman voters. Newton eventually won the Heisman trophy, but was still snubbed by BCS voters who excluded him from the all-American team. With Newton holding the best quarter back ratings in all of college football with his 2589 passing yards and 28 touchdowns, not to mention his 1409 rushing yards(more than most starting running backs in college football) he will surely take advantage of the national spotlight and prove he is undoubtedly the best player in the country.

The hardest obstacle in front of the Tigers will be Oregon's defense which only allowed 18.4 points per game during the season. Fortunately for the Tigers, Oregon's respected defense has struggled at times during the season allowing opponents to gain over 500 yards in three games. With the passing and running abilities of Cameron Newton, the Duck's defense will have a tough time trying to contain the Auburn Tigers.

Football is a team game and Newton definitely did not get the Tigers to the bowl game all by himself. Running back Michael Dyer ran for 950 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also finished the season without coughing up the ball once! Wide receiver Darvin Adams also had a stellar season with 909 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns.

With the numerous offensive weapons at Auburn's disposal, it will be almost impossible for the Ducks to contain them. Both teams should be able to put up huge numbers in what will surely be one of the best national championship games in history. At the end of the day, Auburn will outscore Oregon and win their first national title since 1957.
