Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles have given the people of Philadelphia one of the most magical seasons in their team's history. Ever since his appointment as the starting quarter back for the Eagles, Vick has played his best football after being drafted into the league by the Atlanta Falcons. The Eagles started the season with a dismal performance by the then starting Quarterback, Kevin Kolb. Kolb opened up poorly against the Green Bay Packers, throwing for only 24 yards and a passer rating of 56.2. He suffered a concussion before being pulled out at halftime with the Eagles down 10 points.
Vick took the reins in the second half and immediately delivered on the field. While the Eagles ended up losing the game by 7 points, it was rather obvious who the starting quarter back of the Eagles should have been. His first official start against the Detroit Lions resulted in the Eagles first win. Vick ended up with 284 yards and 2 touchdowns. Vick was later named the starting quarter back and the Eagles have been impressive ever since.
Despite missing 3 games due to a rib injury, Vick finished the season with 3,018 yards, completing 62.6 percent of his passes for 21 passing touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. He also ran for 676 yards and nine touchdowns, which made him a solid contender for the NFL's Most Valuable Player Award.
Vick's comeback has been very exciting for many football fans to watch. He has taken his second chance by the horns and capitalized on his situation. He play has lifted up the entire Eagles team and their offense now has a new swagger in their step. Come playoff time, Vick will surely be highly motivated as he has the opportunity to write the greatest comeback story in the history of sports. Opposing defenses will find it difficult to contain Vick and his highly improved passing abilities. The fact that He can run for huge gains anytime he wants does not make the task any easier for opposing teams either.
Unfortunately, fans did not get to see their dreams of a Super bowl realized. The Eagles ended up losing the game by 5 points, a lingering consequence of the two field goals missed by their kicker, David Akers. Even with Vick's amazing last minute drive, the Eagles were unable to secure the much needed game winning touchdown, due to an interception by Packer cornerback Tramon Williams.
