Five Effective Homemade Recipes for Dry Eyes

For many different reasons, the human eye becomes dry from time to time. With dryness often comes redness and discomfort that can ruin an otherwise good day.
There are varying types of eye drops available at pharmacies that can help alleviate this dryness, but if you find yourself unable to reach one, don't despair. Homemade recipes for dry eyes can be just as effective, and these can be made with ingredients you would find in most pantries.
Here are five effective homemade recipes for dry eyes:

1. Milk and Honey Mixing room temperature milk and honey creates an effective eye drop that moisturizes the eye. That's partly due to the anti-bacterial properties of honey, which is also known to treat conjunctivitis. Simply mix proportional amounts of milk and honey, then stir thoroughly.
Next, put two or three drops in your eyes and you'll start to feel the soothing effect shortly. It's probably best to use a dropper for this step.

2. Castor oil A common ingredient found in eye drops, this is another effective homemade recipe for dry eyes. Put one or two drops of Castor oil in the eyes, and repeat when dryness strikes again.

3. Water Tears, which serve as a natural lubricant for eyes, are made up of oils and water, and the process of tear creation slows down when the body is dehydrated, leading to dry eyes. By drinking at least eight ounces of fluids daily, you reduce the odds of your eyes drying out.

4. Cold vegetables Cold vegetables like cucumbers are another effective homemade recipe for dry eyes, especially if your eyes are tired due to activities like prolonged computer use. Simply cut a few slices fresh from the refrigerator, lay on your back, and place the cucumber or other cold vegetable on your eye (you probably don't want to use peppers). You'll start feeling the soothing effect immediately.

5. Warm compress Dry eyes are sometimes caused by poorly functioning tear glands, so a warm compress can be effective in these situations since the heat opens these up. Simply insert an absorbent cloth in a warm solution and place the cloth over your eyes for a couple of minutes. Obviously, you want to make sure the cloth isn't too hot before placing it on your eyes.
