1. Put your best foot forward First impressions are just as important online, so it's important that you introduce yourself to the rest of the dating community properly. Upload lots of pictures of yourself in different settings since the type of activities you enjoy gives potential suitors a better idea of your personality.

Don't leave your profile empty either. Write as much about yourself as you're willing to share with the world. That shows you're taking the process seriously.

2. Don't be a douche

When contacting a potential suitor, try to write more than a couple of words. Short messages like "hi" or corny stuff like, "do your legs hurt from running through my dreams all night?" won't get you anywhere. Just strike up a conversation like a normal human being.

3. Be clear Make sure your intentions are clear when having conversations with potential suitors. There's nothing wrong with looking for a friend with benefits, a texting buddy, or a long-term relationship. Just make sure you disclose that information as soon as possible, perhaps even on your profile.

4. Neutral first dates When you finally get a few numbers in your inbox, it's time to set up a first date. Don't waste too much time texting and talking on the phone, less you get friend-zoned. A first meeting shouldn't be anything creepy like asking a date to come over or vice versa. Meet in a neutral place with many people around, then work your way up to more intimate settings. Of course, dress to impress.

5. Brace for the grenades There is a war going on right now in the dating game, and the fighting is especially intense in the online dating world. So put on your armor, because you're going to have to navigate through sugar daughters, drama mamas, prostitutes, professional baby mamas, plain old crazy folks, and cross dressers who don't feel the need to give you a heads up.
