Jeff had some harsh but true things to say about Manny
Pacquiao's Dec. 8 knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez during an interview with FightHype's
Percy Crawford.
As far as boxing's pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather's,
uncle is concerned; Pacquiao's best days are behind him.
"You saw the decline in Pacquiao with the Bradley fight
and with the third Marquez fight and the Shane Mosley fight," Jeff said. "Every fight after that Margarito fight
was nothing. It was nothing to even be excited about anymore. It's one of those
things where you can actually see it happening; leading up to this fight, you
can see it happening. … And in my opinion, this fight exposed him for what he
really is now. He's not the same fighter and he hasn't been the same fighter
for a long time."
Mayweather assessment is very accurate, as hardcore boxing fans
have talked about Pacquiao's declining skills for quite some time. Manny's fans have had a hard time dealing with
the evident reality, and some even think the Filipino congressman still has a
legitimate shot against "Money" Mayweather.
Of course, that bout will never happen now, as Marquez made
it clear Pacquiao doesn’t belong inside the same ring with Floyd. After all, Manny
struggled with Marquez' counter-punching during their four fights, and Money
happens to be the best counter puncher in boxing (and all other combat sports
for that matter) right now.
A one-sided beating will probably break out if the two ever
square up, which is why a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight simply makes no sense
at this point.
"The Pactards, or whatever they call themselves,
PacManiacs, of course they gonna want him to fight Floyd if he got knocked out
again and again. That's how stupid they are," Jeff added. "At the end of the day, the value of the
fight is gone, so stop talking about what Pacquiao can do and Pacquiao this and
that. … Pacquiao got beat by Marquez because Marquez is a counter puncher. And
Floyd is probably two or three times better than Marquez at that job. Even
Freddie Roach said, 'Oh, he has trouble with counter punchers.' If he has
trouble with counter punchers, what the hell is he gonna have with Floyd, the
best counter puncher in the world? It's asinine."
