Adrien Broner obliterates Antonio Demarco, what's next?
Adrien Broner (25-0-0, 21 knockouts) passed the toughest
test of his professional boxing career on Nov. 17, stopping Antonio DeMarco
(28-3-1, 21 knockouts) during the eighth round of their encounter at the
Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., capturing the WBC lightweight title in
the process.
Full story
After a slow first round, Broner established himself as the
superior technician, consistently backing DeMarco off with his jab. Antonio tried to fight his way back in the third
round, but Broner quickly shut his comeback attempt down.
Broner started landing some vicious uppercuts in the middle
rounds, and he hurt Demarco badly in the eighth round, prompting the Mexican's
corner to throw in the towel.
Given how dominant Broner was throughout his fight against
DeMarco, it's hard to deny the fact that he's one of the most promising rising
stars in boxing right now. At times during the fight, Broner looked like
boxing's pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather, but with a lot more pop in his
punches.

UFC 154 results and recap: GSP and Condit go to war
The Ultimate Fighting Championship delivered big with the UFC 154 fight card, with the main and co-main events exceeding all expectations. Here are the results of the UFC 154 fight card held on Nov. 17, at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada:
Georges St. Pierre def. Carlos Condit
GSP put on an impressive performance at UFC 154, easily dominating the first two rounds of his encounter against "The Natural Born Killer." Bloodied early in the bout, Condit wasn't about to go down without a fight and he turned things around in the third round, dropping GSP with a head-kick -- that would have stopped a lesser fighter -- and following up with some brutal ground-n-pound.
However, GSP kept his composure, and he survived the ordeal. He came back strong in the fourth round, and he kept it up in the final round, solidifying his role as the greatest welterweight champion in UFC history. All three judges gave GSP the nod.
Johny Hendricks def. Martin Kampmann
Hendricks established himself as the top contender in the UFC's welterweight division, making quick work out of Kampmann. After a brief feeling out period, Hendricks caught Kampmann with a 4-3 combo, knocking the Dane out cold 46 seconds into their UFC 154 encounter.
Francis Carmont def. Tom Lawlor
Carmont seemed to get the better of the striking exchanges, but Lawlor controlled the grappling, keeping Carmont against the cage or on the ground for the majority of their UFC 154 encounter. Lawlor also threatened with a few submissions, but Carmont defended well. Unfortunately for Lawlor, two of the Octagon-side judges gave the Francis the nod, robbing him of the victory.
Rafael dos Anjos def. Mark Bocek
Dos Anjos looked awesome at UFC 154, completely dominating his 15-minute encounter against Bocek. Dos Anjos controlled the action while standing, displaying top notch takedown defense. When Dos Anjos decided to take the fight to the ground, he imposed his will there as well, threatening with a few submissions while breaking Bocek down with some ground-n-pound. All three judges scored the fight 30-27 in favor of dos Anjos, improving his UFC record to 6-4.

Canelo's handlers insist they want Mayweather next
Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has made it clear he wants to test his skills against the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Sergio Martinez in the near future, and that sentiment remains the same within his camp.
Alvarez' trainer, Chepo Reynoso, recently reiterated the fact they're only interested in facing the very best boxers in the world in 2013. “There will be major challenges next year," Reynoso said about potential opponents for Canelo. "The time has come where Saul must face the best pound for pound fighters in the world."
Canelo looked awesome during his last outing against Josesito Lopez, knocking him out during the fifth round of their Sept. 15 encounter. Lopez was coming off an upset victory against Victor Ortiz, but he was clearly in over his head against Canelo.

Belfort on UFC on FX 7 fight against Bisping: "I’m expecting a great combat"
MMA veteran Vitor Belfort came close to dethroning Jon Jones during the first round of their UFC 152 encounter, but "The Phenom" ended up falling short against the youngest champion in the promotion's history.
Vitor's next fight will be against "Ultimate Fighter" season three winner, Michael Bisping, and the old lion is looking forward to redeeming himself against a top middleweight contender.
The two will headline the "UFC on FX 7" fight card, scheduled for Jan. 19, at the Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil.
“It is definitely a fight for the chance to dispute the belt," Vitor said about his upcoming fight. "For me, Bisping is in a better position than Weidman in the ranking. This not only about winning, it is about fighting against the best and he fought Wanderlei Silva, Rashad Evans."

Paulie Malignaggi reflects on his controversial split-decision victory against Cano
Paulie Malignaggi enjoyed a controversial split-decision victory against Pablo Cesar Cano on Oct. 20, but the "Magic Man" feels the judges made the right call. As far as the WBA world welterweight champion is concerned, he earned his victory against Cano, and he's already put the controversy behind him.
"Through two-thirds of the fight, I was barely touched," Malignaggi said during an interview with FightHype.com. "I'm a white guy, dude. If you look at me in the corner, I mean, if I'm being hit, you'll know. If you look at me in the corner through 8 or 9 rounds of that fight, I'm unmarked, you know what I'm saying...at the end of the day, the result stands, you know what I mean? It's a split decision win for Paulie Malignaggi and I'll go on to other things, and I'm still the WBA welterweight champion."
Paulie actually got off to a good start against Cano, but the latter found his groove as the fight progressed. Cano took over in the middle rounds, and he capped off what should have been a victory with his 11th round knockdown of Malignaggi.

Ronda Rousey becomes first female UFC fighter
The Ultimate Fighting Championship's president, Dana White, wasn't initially keen on the idea of women fighting in the promotion, but he's gradually warmed up to the idea over time.
After being a strictly boys club for almost 20 years, the UFC has finally signed its first female MMA fighter, Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey.
TMZ broke the news, but it's yet to be officially confirmed by the UFC.
"Ronda Rousey just made MMA history ... becoming the very first female fighter to join the UFC," TMZ reported. "Rousey -- a former U.S. Olympian -- has officially joined Dana White's MMA organization ... and automatically becomes the 135 lb women's champion. … We're told 25-year-old Ronda will defend her title in 2013 -- possible opponents include Sara McMann, Cris Cyborg and rival Miesha Tate."

Danny Garcia set to face Zab Judah next
WBC light-welterweight champion, Danny Garcia (25-0-0, 16 knockouts), defeated Erik Morales for the second time on Oct. 20, and his next fight will be against another aging veteran, Zab Judah (42-7-0, 29 knockouts).
The fight between the two is currently set for Jan. 19, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., but the venue is still subject to change. Garcia's WBC and WBA light-welterweight titles will be on the line when they square up.
"The deal has been finalized," Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schafer, said during a conversation with Boxingscene.com. "It's going to be January 19th on Showtime. It's going to be part of a tripleheader, possibly a quadruple-header, but for sure a tripleheader. Peter Quillin is going to be on the card as well. We are finalizing everything. I am holding the Barclays Center. I think anywhere [that fight] will be in the Tri-state area, it will do big numbers, but obviously my first choice is Barclays."

DeMarco vows he'll emerge victorious against Broner
Antonio DeMarco (28-2-1, 21 knockouts) will defend his WBC lightweight title against Adrien Broner (24-0-0, 20 knockouts) on Nov. 17, at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
Broner has a lot of hype around him right now, but DeMarco isn’t buying it. As far as the Mexican is concerned his fight against Broner won't be the biggest or most important bout of his career, and he's confident he’ll be able to retain his title against the emerging star.
"We are going to have to get in the ring and see what works," DeMarco said about his upcoming fight, per Boxingscene.com. "Each fight is different. You can have 5 or 10 different strategies and they may not work in a fight. Rest assured we have many plans and we are well prepared. I can't say what they are but I will leave my heart in the ring and come out with the victory."

Condit on UFC 154 fight against GSP: "I like playing the role of spoiler"
UFC interim welterweight champion, Carlos Condit, knows he'll have his work cut out for him when he squares up against the real 170-pound champ, Georges St. Pierre, on Nov. 17, but he's confident he'll be up to the task.
The two will headline the UFC 154 fight card, to be held at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.
Condit and GSP both train with Greg Jackson, prompting "Master Yoda" to recues himself from the fight. Still, both men are familiar with the other's style, which should lead to a competitive fight when the two collide.
Many in the MMA community are already speculating about a super-fight featuring GSP and current middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, assuming "Rush" emerges victorious against Condit. Even UFC president, Dana White, joined the crowd, indicating GSP would probably face Silva at the Cowboy Stadium in Dallas, Texas, if he emerges victorious at UFC 154.

Ben Henderson wants to be more marketable
UFC lightweight champion, Benson Henderson, is arguably the most successful WEC entry into the promotion. "Smooth" grabbed the lightweight strap less than a year after his UFC debut, but he isn't quite yet one of the big names in the promotion.
Henderson understands marketing is a crucial part of being successful in the MMA, and he had some interesting things to say about the best salesman in the UFC, Chael Sonnen.
"He knows it's a promotional game," Henderson said during a conversation with MMAjunkie.com. "He is of average speed, average athletic-wise, white guy, average-looking, and he wrestles guys. He holds guys down – that's his game. Who wants to see that? That's not a super-marketable [style]. But as soon as he starts talking, he's very marketable. And he knows that."
