Machida refuses to fight Jones in September, Belfort steps in

Many MMA fans lashed out at UFC light-heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, for refusing to fight Chael Sonnen on short notice after Dan Henderson was pulled out due to a knee injury.

Jones was then scheduled to face Lyoto Machida on Sept. 22, but it turns out "Bones" isn’t the only that has a problem with taking big fights on short notice.  Machida declined the UFC’s offer to pit him against Jones on the promotion’s next fight card. He’ll now be replaced by former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Vitor Belfort.

“Where a lot of guys are acting like divas I think this is a big challenge for any fighter,” Belfort said.  “I have all the respect for Jones. That’s why you can’t miss this competition. I will not let no one down. I come from the times of Carlson Gracie. He lives inside of me.”

If Belfort changes his mind, Jones has also indicated that he doesn’t have any problems fighting Sonnen on Sept. 22.
