Blue Devils Outclass Bellarmine Knights After Rocky First Half

The Duke Blue Devils started off their preparations for the 2011/12 NCAA season on a positive note, defeating the Bellarmine Knights 87-62 on Oct. 29, in an exhibition game. The game against Bellarmine is the first of two exhibition games the Blue Devils will play leading up to the season.

Nick Diaz Gets Next Shot at GSP, Carlos Condit Out

Many MMA fans were impressed by Nick Diaz' performance against BJ Penn at UFC 137, and so were Ultimate Fighting Championship matchmakers. WEC import Carlos Condit will no longer face current welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre in his next title defense, and Diaz has been pushed back into the number one contender spot. GSP will now face Diaz in his next title defense which is expected to take place on Super Bowl weekend in 2012.

The Seattle Sounders FC ran into some problems in the first leg of their first round series against Real Salt Lake, losing 0-3 on Oct. 29. Sounders FC Ready to Handle Real Salt Lake

The Seattle Sounders FC will play their first game in the 2011 MLS postseason against Real Salt Lake on Oct. 29. After starting off the 2011 MLS regular season with back-to-back losses, Seattle turned things around, finishing the season with the second spot in the Western Conference.

Nick Diaz Regrets Putting Boxing Career on Hold

Cesar Gracie student Nick Diaz was contemplating a boxing career before signing with the UFC earlier in the year. Diaz' plan was to face former IBF super-middleweight champion Jeff Lacy towards the end of 2011, but the Ultimate Fighting Championship was able to bring him in with an offer to face current welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre at UFC 137.

Controversial boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0) was found not guilty of harassment charges stemming from an October 2010 altercation involving the undefeated prize-fighter and two security guards outside his $9.5 million home in Las Vegas, Nevada.

NBA Owners and Players Resume Talks

Less than a week after marathon talks with federal mediator George Cohen failed to bring the current NBA lockout to an end, owners and players will head back to the negotiation table.
Talks will resume between the two sides on Oct. 26 and basketball fans can only hope this round of talks comes to a better conclusion.

MMA fans will no longer get to see current welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre take on Carlos Condit at UFC 137, but they'll certainly get to see some other great fights. NBA players and owners weren't able to reach an agreement when both sides recently met with federal mediator George Cohen, but that doesn't mean basketball fans won't get to see many of the their favorite players play. Kenny Florian Returns to Lightweight Division

"Ultimate Fighter" season one runner-up Kenny "KenFlo" Florian (14-6-0) didn't realize his dreams of becoming a title holder when he fought featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 136, but the veteran MMA fighter doesn't plan to call it quits just yet. Instead, Kenny plans to head back to the 155 pound division where he has spent a majority of his MMA career.

Sounders FC Closeout 2011 Regular Season with 3-1 Win Over Chivas

The Seattle Sounders FC finished off the 2011 MLS regular season with a win, defeating Chivas U.S.A. 3-1 on Oct.22. Unfortunately for the Sounders, the game cost them one of their most important players heading into the playoffs. Sounders playmaker Mauro Rosales who recently returned from an MCL tear in his right knee, suffered another injury when Chivas midfielder Ben Zemanski took him down with a reckless tackle aimed at the same knee.

Bernard Hopkins Reinstated as WBC Light-Heavyweight Champion

Less than a week after losing his World Boxing Council light-heavyweight championship belt via a controversial second round TKO loss to Chad "Bad" Dawson, 46 year old boxer Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins has been reinstated as the WBC light-heavyweight champ. Hopkins was reinstated as the champion after the WBC declared the Oct. 15 boxing match between the two a technical draw.

Sounders FC Struggle in 2-1 Loss to Monterrey

The Seattle Sounders' struggles in the CONCACAF Champions League continued on Oct. 18, with their 2-1 loss to Mexico's Monterrey. The Sounders have been unable to win a game in their last three CONCACAF outings, losing two matches and settling for a draw in the third.

Sounders FC Look for Second Win Against Monterrey

The Seattle Sounders FC will play their last group stage match in the 2011/12 CONCACAF Champions League when they face defending champions Mexico's Monterrey on Oct. 18. The Sounders FC won the first encounter between the two teams, making MLS history with their 1-0 victory over Monterrey on Aug. 23 (Seattle became the second team in MLS history to defeat a Mexican side in Mexico with their win).

MMA veteran Jason "Mayhem" Miller recently revealed his desire to fight current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at the UFC 136 Fan Expo. Silver Stars 2011 season recap

The Minnesota Lynx won their first WNBA title on Oct. 7, defeating the Atlanta Dream 73-67 in Game 3 of the 2011 WNBA Finals. Weeks earlier, the Lynx won their first playoff series in franchise history against the San Antonio Silver Stars. Paul Daley wants second shot with UFC, hoping to fight Nick Diaz

British MMA fighter Paul Daley would like to get a rematch with former Strikeforce fighter Nick Diaz. Earlier in the year, both MMA fighters put on an entertaining fight at the "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley" event. Both MMA fighters got rocked several times during the April 9 encounter between the two, before Diaz finished off Daley at the very end of the first round.

The Seattle Sounders FC made history on Oct. 4, defeating the Chicago Fire 2-0, and winning their third consecutive U.S. Open Cup title. With the win, the Sounders became the fourth team in history to win three consecutive U.S. Open titles, and the first team to accomplish the feat since 1969.

The Seattle Sounders FC continued their impressive play, defeating the New England Revolution 2-1 on Oct. 1. With the win, the Sounders FC increased their current MLS win streak to three games. The Revolution struck first in the Oct. 1 encounter between the two teams, thanks to a Diego Fagundez header in the 34th minute.
