Vick Propels Philadelphia Eagles to 31-13 Win Over Rams

Quarterback Michael Vick was in full form in the Philadelphia Eagles 2011 NFL season opener, leading his teammates to a 31-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams.

The Rams struck first in the Sept. 11 encounter between the two NFC teams, thanks to Steven Jackson's 47-yard punt return for a touchdown. The Eagles offense answered back in their next possession, moving the ball 80 yards down the field for their first touchdown of the game.

The Eagles added another touchdown in the first quarter, thanks to a fumble forced by Darryl Tapp. Both offenses slowed down in the second quarter, settling for a field goal apiece.

In the second half of the game, the Rams had no answers for the Eagles defense, putting up only three points to Philadelphia's 14.

Vick was certainly the biggest reason for the Eagles success, throwing for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Vick also caused major problems for the Rams defense on the ground, finishing the game with 98 rushing yards.

"It felt great to know that I can go out and play lights-out, not have to worry about anything," Vick told reporters after the game. "I feel better than I've ever felt before and I give a lot of credit with the situation with the CBA, giving us a lot time to get rest and to prepare ourselves. I feel like I can play another four quarters right now."

LeSean McCoy was also outstanding for the Eagles, averaging 8.1 yards per carry against the Rams. McCoy finished the game with 122 yards and a touchdown for Philadelphia. DeSean Stevenson was Vick's favorite target against St. Louis, finishing the game with 102 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Philadelphia fans can be proud of the way the Eagles handled their first game of the season against St. Louis. The Eagles next game will be against the Atlanta Braves on Sept. 18, and Philadelphia fans can expect Vick to put on another impressive performance.
