After jumping through hoops to finally become eligible, Terrelle Pryor, former Ohio State University Buckeye will find out his future as a player in the NFL Fraternity. The 2011 NFL Supplemental Draft will take place on Monday, August 22, after being delayed a few days to determine the eligibility of Pryor.
Pryor became eligible for the supplemental draft on Thursday, after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell ruled that Pryor would have to serve a mandatory five game suspension once he signs a contract. This is the same number of games that Pryor was supposed to sit out had he returned to OSU.
On Saturday, Pryor hosted a Pro Day where 17 NFL teams showed up. The Oakland Raiders, Washington Redskins, and Cincinnati Bengals have showed the most interest and need for QB like Pryor. Also, interested is the Denver Broncos who did not make an appearance at the Pro Day.
Pryor is only one of six eligible players in this year’s draft. The others include defensive back Torez Jones for Western Carolina, University of Georgia running back Caleb King for, Lindenwood defensive end Keenan Mace, University of North Carolina defensive end Michael McAdoo, and Northern Illinois University safety Tracy Wilson.
Amongst the six players Pryor is generating the most noise because he violated the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association by bypassing the January 15 deadline to declare for the regular draft in April. He further dug a deeper hole when on June 7 he hired an agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and refused to cooperate with the NCAA.
The draft will take place at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time. Each team will place a silent bid on a player and offer a draft pick in a certain round. The player will go to the highest bidder and if the team offers a particular round draft pick for the player, they will give up their round selection for the 2012 draft.
