Chael Sonnen fails drug test after Silva fight!

UFC’s pound for pound best trash talker, Chael Sonnen tested positive for abnormally high levels of testosterone following his August championship fight against the pound for pound best fighter on the planet middleweight champion Anderson Silva, according to the California State Athletic Commission.
. The CSAC first received results on Sept. 2 and waited for confirmation of a second sample tested at the World Anti-Doping Agency-affiliated UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory before informing Sonnen.
Sonnen has 30 days to file an appeal with the state. Sonnen is subject to an automatic one-year suspension and $2,500 fine. His rematch with the champion Silva has now been cancelled. Sonnen did not respond to repeated requests for comment by various news sources
Leading up to the fight, Sonnen was brash and egotistical as he continuously made comments that would make Floyd Mayweather Jr seem humble. He constantly ran his mouth about his opponent and became somewhat of a “great white hope” for those MMA fans that were getting tired on Silva’s UFC record title defenses. Hardcore fans saw him as crazy as he didn’t seem to have a chance in hell against Silva.
Sonnen actually ended up putting up quite a show as he won the first four rounds with his solid takedown ability. He was unable to do significant damage to the champ and paid for it in the final round when Silva caught him in a triangle choke. His character (or lack thereof) was also exposed in the final moments of the as he initially denied tapping out (something had also done in previous fights) and the referee had to watch the replay on the big screen to verify that he did tap. It comes as little surprise that a fighter that has shown such poor character, tried to cheat in order to get an edge. His performance against Silva no longer has any merit as he would probably not have gotten past the first round if he wasn’t doping.

UFC fight night 22 was an awesome night filled with upsets. UCF legend Yves Edwards made an impressive comeback to the UFC, with his dominant unanimous decision over John Gunderson. The veteran looked really good in his performance and I would be shocked to see him compete for the lightweight title in the future. Charles Oliveira also had an impressive night as he had his first televised fight with the UFC. He defeated Efrain Escudero in a back and forth fight by rear naked choke in the final round. The most impressive thing about Oliveira, was the crisp striking he displayed throughout the fight. Most hardcore MMA fans already knew he was an excellent BJJ fighter but his Muay Thai display was as impressive as his BJJ. The Main event was also marred in controversy as Rousimar Palhares got TKO'ed as he tried to complain to the referee about Nate Marquardt being too slippery. The doctors immediately checked Nate and determined that he wasn't greased up. Sad that a seasoned veteran like Palhares forgot the most important rule in combat sports "protect yourself at all times!"

This are my UFC 116 fight analysis and predictions

Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin: Carwin looks real good with no defeats, but lesnar would be undefeated if not for an amateurish mistake that left him open to an ankle lock from Frank Mir. Lesnar's grade a wresting, combined with his suprising speed will cause major probles for Carwin and will prove too much for him.

Lesnar via TKO 2nd round

Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Chris Leben: Akiyama was impressive in his last fight and with his Judo pedigree, I would say his the better fighter between the two. That being said, he is also "Sexyyama" which tips the scale towards Leben. There is a good chance that Akiyama will be stupid enough to stand and trade with leben. If he does Leben(who is hungry and trying to reclaim his top contender status) will knock him out.

Leben via KO 3rd round

Here are some of my other predictions

Krzysztof Soszynski def Stephan Bonnar
Kurt Pellegrino def George Sotiropoulos
Chris Lytle def Matt Brown
Brendan Schaub def Chris Tuchscherer
Ricardo Romero def Seth Petruzelli

Down goes Fedor

MMA newbie’s watched in horror as the great Fedor paused for a moment before succumbing to the excellent BJJ of Fabricio Werdum. Most educated fans weren't that surprised as they have had legitimate doubts about Fedor in the past. The fact that he barely made it out of the first round with Brett "The grim" Rogers didn't help either, although Fedor did redeem himself by knocking out Brett in the second round. Fedor while being the greatest fighter in the PRIDE era, has not fought enough legitimate new era heavyweights to warrant all the hype behind him. I would compare the Fedor hype machine to the Kimbo hype machine. The difference being that Fedor is actually a top level heavyweight, while Kimbo is TUF level at best. Don't get me wrong, Fedor does not suck. He is simply not the best pound for pound fighter that a lot of newbie’s(who probably started watching MMA because of Brock Lesnar!) have proclaimed him to be. The are a handful of fighters that can beat him and if Fedor decides to man up and face the best available competition he will have a few more losses under his belt. This are my current top five heavyweights in the world.
1. Alistair Overeem
2. Brock Lesnar
3. Shane Carwin
4. Fedor Emelianenko
5. Frank Mir
